About Masechta Zevachim · מסכת זבחים

Zevachim opens Seder Kodashim and learns the korbanos of animals and birds: how each is brought and what makes it pasul. It opens 'all korbanos that were shechted not for their own sake are kosher, except the Pesach and the chatas', and its first perakim learn the four avodos of the blood - shechitah, receiving, carrying and throwing - and the thought that ruins a korban: eating it after its time, which makes it pigul, or out of its place.

The fifth perek, Eizehu Mekoman, said every morning in Shacharis, learns where each korban is shechted, where its blood is thrown, who eats it, where and until when. Then come the bird offerings, which korban comes first when two meet, the mizbe'ach that sanctifies what is put on it, and the washing and scouring of vessels after a chatas.

The last perek, Paras Chatas, learns the history of the bamos - when korbanos were brought on private altars and when only in one place: in the Mishkan, at Gilgal, Shiloh, Nov and Givon, and in the Beis HaMikdash in Yerushalayim. Zevachim also tells that when the Torah was given the kings of the nations asked Bilaam whether a flood was coming, and he answered: 'Hashem will give strength to His people'.

From the pages of Zevachim

Each of the Kohen Gadol's garments atones for its own sin - the tunic for bloodshed, the belt for the thoughts of the heart, the robe for lashon hara; and Yisro, who heard of the splitting of the sea and the war with Amalek, and came. The kohanim did the avodah barefoot, with nothing between their feet and the floor of the Beis HaMikdash; and when the Jews came up from Bavel to build the second Beis HaMikdash, three prophets came up with them: one testified about the mizbe'ach, one about its place, and one that korbanos may be brought even where there is no Beis HaMikdash.

This page holds 671 shiurim on Masechta Zevachim from 7 maggidei shiur; the most come from Rabbi Eli Stefansky (238), Rabbi Moshe Meir Weiss (170) and Rabbi David Elmaleh (146). 376 of them learn the whole daf and 295 are short reviews. 119 dafim have their own shiurim here, each in its own row above, and “Learn in the Daf Room” opens that daf with its text and its shiurim side by side.

Masechta Zevachim in the Daf Yomi

The 14th Daf Yomi cycle learned Masechta Zevachim one daf a day for 119 days, from daf 2 to daf 120, from September 16, 2025 to January 12, 2026; the 15th cycle, which opens with Berachos on June 8, 2027, reaches it on February 17, 2033. Masechta Zevachim is in Seder Kodashim, the fifth of the six orders of the Mishnah, and in the order of the Daf Yomi it comes after Masechta Horayos and before Masechta Menachos. On each of those days the Daf Room opens the day's daf with its text and every shiur on it, and the rows above keep the shiurim of every daf of the masechta for anyone who learns at his own pace.
