About Masechta Kiddushin · מסכת קידושין

Kiddushin learns how a man and a woman become married according to the Torah, and with it how things are acquired in halacha. It opens 'a woman is acquired in three ways' - with money, with a document and with marital life - and the same perek learns how a Jewish slave, a Canaanite slave, an animal, land and movable things are acquired: the great perek of kinyanim in the Shas.

The first perek also learns which mitzvos women are obligated in, and honouring a father and mother, with the story of Dama ben Nesinah, who would not wake his father even for a great profit, and the teaching that one who does a single mitzvah is rewarded and his days are lengthened. The second perek, HaIsh Mekadesh, learns kiddushin through a shaliach, kiddushin on condition and kiddushin with a forbidden thing; the third learns conditions and doubts.

The fourth, Asarah Yuchsin, learns the ten family lines that came up from Bavel - kohanim, levi'im, Yisraelim and the rest - which may marry which, and how families are checked. The masechta ends with Rabbi Nehorai: 'I put aside every trade in the world and teach my son only Torah', whose reward a person eats in this world while its principal stands for the World to Come.

From the pages of Kiddushin

Hashem says 'I created the yetzer hara, and I created the Torah as its cure'; a father must teach his son Torah, a trade, and some say even to swim; a person should always see himself as half guilty and half deserving, so that one mitzvah tips the scale for him and for the whole world; and learning is great, because learning brings to doing. Rabbi Tarfon bent down so that his mother could step on him to climb into bed, and the Chachamim told him he had not yet reached half of the honour the Torah asks.

This page holds 646 shiurim on Masechta Kiddushin from 9 maggidei shiur; the most come from Rabbi Akiva Teichtal (165), Rabbi Eli Stefansky (124) and Rabbi David Elmaleh (105). 529 of them learn the whole daf and 117 are short reviews. 81 dafim have their own shiurim here, each in its own row above, and “Learn in the Daf Room” opens that daf with its text and its shiurim side by side.

Masechta Kiddushin in the Daf Yomi

The 14th Daf Yomi cycle learned Masechta Kiddushin one daf a day for 81 days, from daf 2 to daf 82, from August 15, 2023 to November 3, 2023; the 15th cycle, which opens with Berachos on June 8, 2027, reaches it on January 16, 2031. Masechta Kiddushin is in Seder Nashim, the third of the six orders of the Mishnah, and in the order of the Daf Yomi it comes after Masechta Gittin and before Masechta Bava Kamma. On each of those days the Daf Room opens the day's daf with its text and every shiur on it, and the rows above keep the shiurim of every daf of the masechta for anyone who learns at his own pace.
