About Masechta Kesubos · מסכת כתובות

Kesubos learns the kesubah, the marriage contract, and the whole relationship of husband and wife in halacha: what each owes the other, and what happens when a marriage ends by death or divorce.

It opens 'a besulah is married on Wednesday', so that if there is a claim the beis din, which sat on Mondays and Thursdays, would hear it the next morning, and learns the kesubah of a besulah and of a widow. The next perakim learn claims about a bride, the fines the Torah sets for one who seduces or forces a na'arah, and a father's rights in his daughter. Then come the heart of marriage: what a husband gives his wife - food, clothing and her times - what she does in the home, what is hers from her earnings and from what she brought in, the dowry, and the husband or wife who refuses the other.

The later perakim learn a husband who vowed against his wife, and a widow's claims: her support from the estate, her home, and how a kesubah is collected from land. The last perek learns living in Eretz Yisrael and the greatness of its land. Kesubos also brings Rabbi Akiva and Rachel, who sent him to learn for twenty-four years, and the last day of Rabbi Yehudah HaNasi, when his maid prayed that the upper ones prevail over the lower.

From the pages of Kesubos

How does one dance before a bride? Beis Shammai say 'as she is', Beis Hillel say 'a beautiful and gracious bride'; one who gives tzedakah should not give more than a fifth, lest he come to need others; one who lives in Eretz Yisrael is like one who has a G-d; and Rabbi Yehudah HaNasi at the end, who raised his ten fingers to heaven and said he had toiled in Torah with all ten and had not benefited from this world even with his little finger.

This page holds 294 shiurim on Masechta Kesubos from 4 maggidei shiur; the most come from Rabbi Eli Stefansky (127), Rabbi Oster Gemara Shiur (108) and Daf Yomi with Rabbi Phil Karesh (57). 279 of them learn the whole daf and 15 are short reviews. 111 dafim have their own shiurim here, each in its own row above, and “Learn in the Daf Room” opens that daf with its text and its shiurim side by side.

Masechta Kesubos in the Daf Yomi

The 14th Daf Yomi cycle learned Masechta Kesubos one daf a day for 111 days, from daf 2 to daf 112, from July 8, 2022 to October 26, 2022; the 15th cycle, which opens with Berachos on June 8, 2027, reaches it on December 9, 2029. Masechta Kesubos is in Seder Nashim, the third of the six orders of the Mishnah, and in the order of the Daf Yomi it comes after Masechta Yevamos and before Masechta Nedarim. On each of those days the Daf Room opens the day's daf with its text and every shiur on it, and the rows above keep the shiurim of every daf of the masechta for anyone who learns at his own pace.
