About Masechta Yevamos · מסכת יבמות
Yevamos is the first masechta of Seder Nashim and among the hardest in the Shas. Its subject is yibum and chalitzah: when a man dies without children, his brother marries the widow to build up his brother's name, or releases her through chalitzah.
It opens with the fifteen women who exempt their co-wives - a woman forbidden to the brother as an ervah frees every other wife of the deceased - and from there the Gemara learns the map of forbidden relations, whether a mitzvah pushes aside a lav, and the dispute of Beis Shammai and Beis Hillel on the co-wives. The middle perakim learn who may marry a kohen and a kohen gadol, the kohen's family eating terumah, a mamzer and a petzu'a daka, the converts of Ammon, Moav and Mitzrayim, and the mitzvah of peru u'revu.
The later perakim learn chalitzah itself and its order, and the woman whose husband went overseas and was reported dead: how much testimony is needed to let her marry again - one witness, even a woman, even words said in passing - because the Chachamim were lenient so that she not remain an agunah. Yevamos also tells of the twelve thousand pairs of Rabbi Akiva's students who died between Pesach and Shavuos because they did not treat each other with honour, and of the five students in the south from whom the Torah was renewed.

A man without a wife lives without joy, without blessing and without good; the halacha that a man of Moav may not enter the community but a woman of Moav may - the way Rus came in, and from her Dovid HaMelech; and it is a mitzvah to say what will be heard, and a mitzvah not to say what will not be heard. Rabbi Akiva had twelve thousand pairs of students, and all of them died between Pesach and Shavuos because they did not treat each other with honour, until he came to the rabbis of the south and taught them, and the Torah went on through them.

Masechta Yevamos in the Daf Yomi
The 14th Daf Yomi cycle learned Masechta Yevamos one daf a day for 121 days, from daf 2 to daf 122, from March 9, 2022 to July 7, 2022; the 15th cycle, which opens with Berachos on June 8, 2027, reaches it on August 10, 2029. Masechta Yevamos is in Seder Nashim, the third of the six orders of the Mishnah, and in the order of the Daf Yomi it comes after Masechta Chagigah and before Masechta Kesubos. On each of those days the Daf Room opens the day's daf with its text and every shiur on it, and the rows above keep the shiurim of every daf of the masechta for anyone who learns at his own pace.
