About Masechta Chagigah · מסכת חגיגה

Chagigah learns the mitzvah of going up to the Beis HaMikdash for the three festivals - re'iyah, the olah a person brought when he appeared there, and the chagigah, the shelamim of the festival - and who is obligated: all are obligated in re'iyah except a deaf-mute, a shoteh and a child.

Its second perek opens with the Mishnah 'ein dorshin': the secrets of creation and of the chariot are not taught to many. Here the Gemara brings the four who entered the Pardes - Ben Azzai, Ben Zoma, Acher and Rabbi Akiva, who alone entered in peace and left in peace - and the story of Elisha ben Avuyah and his student Rabbi Meir. The same perek learns the dispute of semichah on a korban on Yom Tov, the first dispute in the Mishnah, passed down through the pairs of Nasi and Av Beis Din from Yose ben Yo'ezer.

The third perek, Chomer BaKodesh, learns the laws of tumah and taharah of korbanos and terumah, the stricter rules for kodesh, and why every am ha'aretz was trusted during the festival. The masechta ends with the cleaning of the Beis HaMikdash vessels after the festival and the teaching that the fire of Gehinnom has no power over talmidei chachamim.

From the pages of Chagigah

One who learned his perek a hundred times is not like one who learned it a hundred and one times; Hashem weeps every day over one who can learn Torah and does not, one who cannot and still does, and a leader who lords it over the community; the seven heavens and what is in each; and Rabbi Elazar ben Arach, who expounded the chariot before Rabban Yochanan ben Zakkai until fire came down around them. Its Mishnah warns that one who gazes into four things - what is above, what is below, what was before and what will be after - it would have been better for him not to have come into the world.

This page holds 174 shiurim on Masechta Chagigah from 8 maggidei shiur; the most come from Rabbi Shlomo Yisraeli (62), Rabbi Shmuel Silber (30) and Rabbi David Elmaleh (27). 169 of them learn the whole daf and 5 are short reviews. 26 dafim have their own shiurim here, each in its own row above, and “Learn in the Daf Room” opens that daf with its text and its shiurim side by side.

Masechta Chagigah in the Daf Yomi

The 14th Daf Yomi cycle learned Masechta Chagigah one daf a day for 26 days, from daf 2 to daf 27, from February 11, 2022 to March 8, 2022; the 15th cycle, which opens with Berachos on June 8, 2027, reaches it on July 15, 2029. Masechta Chagigah is in Seder Moed, the second of the six orders of the Mishnah, and in the order of the Daf Yomi it comes after Masechta Moed Katan and before Masechta Yevamos. On each of those days the Daf Room opens the day's daf with its text and every shiur on it, and the rows above keep the shiurim of every daf of the masechta for anyone who learns at his own pace.
