About Yehoshua Limoni

Yehoshua Limoni is a singer-songwriter on Lehallel — the filtered YouTube platform. 76+ of his recordings can be watched here, with no ads and no comments.

Yehoshua Limoni writes and sings his own songs in Hebrew - songs about a person's inner life, his searching and his joy, set in the language of the street and the language of the siddur together. His titles are short Hebrew words, and many of them are simple pictures: "Mangina" - a melody; "Abba" - father; "Matanah" - a gift; "Yom" - a day; "Meshorer" - a poet; "Milah" - a word; "Rak Tov" - only good; "La'uf Al Ofanayim" - flying on bicycles.

Some of his songs come straight from the world of the Rebbe and his shluchim. "770" carries the number of the Rebbe's house at 770 Eastern Parkway, and "Al Tevater" - don't give up - is the song of the shaliach, the emissary who lives far from home to bring Jews close. "Chevlei Mashiach" - the birth pangs of Moshiach - sings of the days before the redemption, and "Hinei Hu Ba" - here he comes - waits for it. From the siddur and Tehillim come "Shema", sung on its own and with Ilan Damari, "Mizmor LeTodah", the hundredth psalm of thanksgiving, and "Bein Kodesh", the words of Havdalah that divide between the holy and the everyday; "Keser Mevuchah - Avinu" calls to Hashem as our Father, and "Mizbeach" sings of an altar. "Essen Est Zich" is sung in Yiddish with his band in the studio.

His other songs follow the heart through its days: "Lifamim" - sometimes; "Kol Pa'am" - every time; "Eich SheLo Yihyeh" - however it will be; "Kamah Zeh Kasheh" - how hard it is; "Pispus" - a missed chance; "Od Me'at Muchan" - almost ready; "Yotzes LaOr" - coming out to the light; "Mitnadned" - swaying, and "Mitnadned VeNofel", swaying and falling; "Nevi'ah" - welling up; "Emtza HaMidbar" - the middle of the desert; "Ish Taluy", "Echad Yoter Gadol", "Tovah", "Adin", "Manos Ktanos", "Shir Same'ach", "Yesh Bi Shir" - there is a song in me - and lighter ones such as "Banana", "Charlie" and "Dreamliner".

Many songs come in more than one form: "Mangina" in the studio, acoustic and live; "Abba" sung close, outdoors; "La'uf Al Ofanayim" live; "Shir Same'ach" live with a row of drummers; "Lifamim" as a clip; and a conversation in which Rabbi Fenger hosts him. Each song opens on its own page, with no ads and no comments around it.
