About Baruch Levine

Baruch Levine is a singer and composer on Lehallel — the filtered YouTube platform. 48+ of his recordings can be watched here, with no ads and no comments.

Baruch Levine writes and sings songs that take their words from the siddur and the Sages. "Akiva Nichamtanu" - Akiva, you have comforted us - carries the words the Sages said to Rabbi Akiva when he laughed at the ruins of the Beis HaMikdash, because he saw in them the promise of its rebuilding. "V'sein Chelkeinu" asks Hashem to give us our portion in His Torah, the words of the Shabbos and Yom Tov prayer. "Yehiyu Leratzon" is the verse of Tehillim said at the end of the Amidah - may the words of my mouth find favor. "Rina", "Rinah ViShuah", sings the sound of joy and salvation in the tents of the righteous; "Vehaya Bayom Hahu" closes Aleinu with the day Hashem will be One; "Es Tzemach" is the blessing of the offspring of David.

Other songs carry their message in their names: "Ahavas Yisroel" - love for every Jew - "Refuah", a song for healing, "Umacha", "Ki Lashem", "Standing Next to Me", and "The Piano Boy", a story told for Camp Tashbar. Many come in an a cappella edition, sung with voices alone - "Akiva Nichamtanu", "Refuah", "Rina", "Ahavas Yisroel" and "Yehiyu Leratzon" - so they can be heard in the weeks when instruments are put away.

His albums are here as their samplers, previews and stories: "Bonim Atem", "Lev Chodosh" with a look behind the scenes in the studio, "Peduscho", "Baruch Levine 4", and "A Time for Music" with its medley of the songs of the exile. He sings live in concert and at "Kumzitz Alive!", and "Backstage with Baruch" goes behind the stage of Dirshu's Kabbalas Shabbos at the Prudential Center.

To find your way here: the page opens with the songs he made for the institutions of Torah, then the a cappella editions, then the albums as their samplers and previews, then his live recordings, and last the rest of his songs. A listener meeting him for the first time can begin with "Akiva Nichamtanu" or "V'sein Chelkeinu", and one who needs music without instruments - in the days of the Omer or the Three Weeks - can go straight to the a cappella room.

Each of those institutions is a part of Jewish learning: Torah Umesorah, the network of Torah day schools across America; Yeshiva Torah Vodaath in Brooklyn; Dirshu, which brings learners through Shas and halacha on daily schedules with tests; and Oorah, which brings Jewish children and families closer to Torah. His songs for them were written for their gatherings and their students.

He has given his voice to the institutions of Torah: for Torah Umesorah, "This Year Will Be Different" and "On the Shoulders of Giants" for its seventy-fifth anniversary; for Torah Vodaath, "Marching Toward the Future" with the yeshiva's choir; for Dirshu, Maoz Tzur; for Oorah, "V'sein Chelkeinu"; and "A Thousand Voices" for Night Seder America, with Rivie Schwebel, Ari Schonfeld and Yeshaya Levin. He also speaks, as Rabbi Baruch Levine, in "What Our Children Will Remember". Each song opens on its own page, with no ads and no comments around it.
