About Mamtak LeShabat

Mamtak LeShabat is a Shabbat song project on Lehallel — the filtered YouTube platform. 83+ of his recordings can be watched here, with no ads and no comments.

Mamtak LeShabat - "a sweet for Shabbat" - is a project of Avi Raimi and Yair Bodner: the words of Shabbat, from Kabbalat Shabbat to the Shabbat table, each sung with a different guest. Every recording here is one song of the project, about three minutes long.

The songs follow Shabbat from Kabbalat Shabbat to its end: "Lechu Neranena", "Mizmor Shir", "Lecha Dodi" and its stanzas "Shamor VeZachor", "Hitna'ari", "Hitoreri" and "Bo'i Beshalom", then "Raza DeShabbat"; from the davening "Veshamru", "Vayechulu", "Ein Aroch Lecha", "Mimkomcha", "VeHareinu" and "U'veyom HaShabbat".

At the Shabbat table they sing "Shalom Aleichem" (with Davidi Nachshon), "Kiddush", "Yedid Nefesh" twice with two different guests, "Menucha VeSimcha", "Shabbat HaYom LaHashem", "Ribono Shel Olam", and "Ve'anpaha Nehirin" in Aramaic.

Song by song, as the titles name them - Kabbalat Shabbat: "Lechu Neranena" with יהודה גלילי, "Mizmor Shir" with אברימי רוט, "Lecha Dodi" sung by Avi and Yair themselves, "Shamor VeZachor" with אריק דביר, "Mikdash Melech" with שמוליק סוכות, "Hitna'ari" twice - with אברומי וינברג and with נפתלי קמפה - "Hitoreri" with בנצי שטיין, "Bo'i Beshalom" with קובי ברומר, and "Raza DeShabbat" with משה דוד ווייסמנדל. Around them stand the project's songs of the day: "HaShabbat" with רפאל מלול, "Ba Shabbat" with אלחנן אלחדד, "Ani Shabbat" with בנצי קלצקין and יענקי לוינגר, and "Shabbat Shalom" with קובי מירסקי.

From the davening: "Veshamru" by the two of them and again with מאיר גפני; "Vayechulu" with אלי פרידמן and "Vayechulu HaShamayim" by the two; "Ein Aroch Lecha" with שמחה פרידמן; "Mimkomcha" twice, with אבי אילסון and with מוישי רוט; "VeHareinu" with לוי פלקוביץ and "VeHareinu Hashem" with מוטי ויזל; "Shav'at Aniyim" with שלמה שמחה; "U'veyom HaShabbat" with the Capella choir; "Adon HaShalom" with יוסי ברגר; "Va'ani Tefilati" with אלחנן שטיינמץ; "Vezakeinu" twice, with יוסף חיים שוואקי and with אהרלה סאמעט; and "Melei'im Ziv" with אבי מן.

For the meal: "Shalom Aleichem" with דוידי נחשון, "Kiddush", "Yedid Nefesh" with קובי גרינבוים and with ביני לנדאו, "Ribono Shel Olam" with ייצי וולדנר, "Yemin U'smol" with הראל טל, "Hadur Na'eh" with אליה שוקרון, "Ve'anpaha Nehirin" with יואלי דוידוביץ, and - sung by Avi Raimi and Yair Bodner themselves - "Menucha VeSimcha", "Shabbat HaYom LaHashem", "Kol Mi SheOskim", "Meshoch No'am", "Pruk Yat Anach", "Zar'a", "Ken Hashem Elokeinu", "Yizkerem", "Kol Tzamei Lechu LaMayim", "Menorah" and "VeHayu LiMshisa".

Where the words come from: "Lechu Neranena" is the ninety-fifth psalm, with which Kabbalat Shabbat opens, and "Mizmor Shir" is the ninety-second, the psalm of the Shabbat day. "Lecha Dodi" was written in Safed by Rabbi Shlomo HaLevi Alkabetz; "Shamor VeZachor", "Mikdash Melech", "Hitna'ari", "Hitoreri" and "Bo'i Beshalom" are its stanzas. "Raza DeShabbat" is a passage of the Zohar said before Maariv on Friday night, and "Yedid Nefesh" is the poem of Rabbi Elazar Azikri, another of the sages of Safed.

"Veshamru" is the Torah's own verse of the Shabbat covenant, and "Vayechulu" the verses of the seventh day of creation that close the Friday-night Amidah and open Kiddush. "Ein Aroch Lecha" comes from the blessings before the Shema on Shabbat morning, and "Mimkomcha" from the Kedushah. At the table, "Shalom Aleichem" greets the angels who accompany a person home from shul, "Ve'anpaha Nehirin" is a line of the Arizal's Aramaic song "Azamer Bishvachin", and "Pruk Yat Anach" a line of "Yah Ribon" by Rabbi Yisrael Najara. Each recording here sets those words to a melody of its own.

To hear Friday night in its own order, start with Lechu Neranena and Mizmor Shir, go on through the stanzas of Lecha Dodi from Shamor VeZachor to Bo'i Beshalom, then Raza DeShabbat, Veshamru and Vayechulu; at the table play Shalom Aleichem, Kiddush and Yedid Nefesh, and the zemiros after them. For Shabbat morning, Ein Aroch Lecha, Mimkomcha and U'veyom HaShabbat follow the davening. Every song is about three minutes, so the whole of Kabbalat Shabbat fits a drive home before candle lighting, and a child who hears the same melody every week learns the words with it. Press Play all to hear them back to back, or open any one song on its own page to share it.

The guests include Levy Falkowitz, Kobi Brummer, Yitzy Waldner, Avi Ilson, Simcha Friedman, Avrumi Roth, Naftali Kempeh, Elchanan Elhadad and the Capella choir - each song names its guest in its title. Each song opens on its own page, with no ads and no comments around it.

You can search inside the songs by what was said, play the whole catalog back to back, or follow Mamtak LeShabat to be told when something new comes in.
