hi my name is ELISA Minkin I'm a general pediatrician and I'm also co-chair of the Jewish Orthodox Women's Medical Association preventative health committee and I'm here today with Aviva belek who was currently a fourth-year medical student at the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University she grew up in Baltimore Maryland and received her bachelor's and biological sciences at the University of Maryland and she currently lives with her husband and daughter and Huntington New York I have her here tonight actually to talk about eating disorders and I'm really grateful for you Aviva for sharing with us your own personal story that's I think it's really brave and very special of you so thank you so much for joining me tonight my pleasure as mentioned my name is Aviva I'm a fourth year medical student and when I was a teenager I had an eating disorder so I guess kind of jumping right into my story when I was about oh I was sixty excuse me I was sixteen I went to uh sleepaway camp a summer camp as a mother's helper and it was kind of the first time I had been away from home you know everyone talks about that freshman 15 when they go to college but um this was my first time being away from home and I I did gain weight so I gained about mmm probably probably 10 to 15 pounds during my six weeks away from home that summer and when I got home I didn't really know what to do with that I felt very self-conscious I guess I could should kind of preface this by saying I'm the youngest of four girls and I really looked up to all my sisters and I really wanted to be like them and
