hi my name is elisa minkin i'm a general pediatrician i'm also the co-chair of the joma preventative health committee and i'm excited to be here today with dr sarah asher dr asher is a licensed psychologist specializing in the treatment of children adolescents and young adults she's currently the director of school psychology at the yeshiva of central queens where she coordinates psychology services for kindergarten to 8th grade students previously she was a senior psychologist at the yeshiva university counseling center in response to the pandemic she has spoken extensively to parents school personnel and community leaders about personnel and community leaders about the effects of stress on child development and strategies to build resilience last week i interviewed rabbi yitzy ross who's south shore fourth grade rebbe and author of the popular parenting blog and columbia parenting and he said multiple times that children in his class are doing well overall and that children are naturally resilient and that they're adjusting well to the new normal including mask wearing parents can really help by setting the tone here but as a pediatrician i see many children every week even before covet 19 who have significant mental health challenges anxiety depression and attention deficit disorder adhd are the most frequent disorder adhd are the most frequent issues i encounter it may surprise them to hear that one out of every six children according to the cdc ages two to eight have significant developmental and oral behavior and or behavioral challenges the rate of anxiety in u.s teens age 13 to 18 according to the national institute of health is one in three really high and i'm telling you i see it every day so i know that to be an accurate statistic so thank you so much for joining me today dr asher thank you so much for having me it's really a pleasure to be here

  6. 19:29you know there's a lot of debate about trauma in children there has been a strong
  7. 23:35able to walk you through that process you know they might be able to help you
  8. 27:12people that each have eyes in different areas school psychologist has a perspective from the school
  9. 31:17school is generally hopefully a safe place for the child but it's like you have that
  10. 35:23that so i i there were 300 about 300 respondents in the survey and almost 80
