we're grateful for rabbi flam to be here robert flam is the rashishiva of the torah studies network he's the mishkiyaku of the lander college for women and he is an expert in the torah-based biomedical ethics and we are grateful robert if you can introduce give us an introduction to the event thank you thank you for the invitation uh i would just like to give a very quick introduction to the perspective of the importance of medicine and what are the parameters medicine and what are the parameters defining how we're supposed to deal with medical issues the first thing i want to mention in the world of based upon biblical law and comedic law terrorist is wrapping around the torah tells us there is an obligation for a person to be involved in medical care according to all the sources this halacha is number one obligatory number two it applies not only to adopt a practicing medicine to cure patients but it's likewise an equal obligation upon a patient who feels they're sick upon a patient who feels they're sick to go and search and seek the proper specialists out there to treat the illness they possess so there's an obligation on the doctor there's an obligation on the patient this concept of responsibility to practice medicine and to receive medical care is not only dealing with the concept of curing disease but even preventing disease and this is the way the godot happens our 21st century baskin we have to do whatever we can to make sure not only that we cure the disease
