foreign preventative health podcast hosted by the Jewish Orthodox Women's Medical Association we provide you with up-to-date information on health topics geared towards the Orthodox Jewish Community this podcast content is provided for informational purposes only and is not intended as medical advice or as a substitute for the medical advice as a substitute for the medical advice of a physician thank you welcome to the Jewish Orthodox Women's Medical Association or Joma podcast I'm your host Elisa ninkin I am a general pediatrician and proud Joma member and today I'm really honored and really excited to be interviewing Adina Leviton who is a child life specialist but she is also the person who does everything for this podcast except actually do the interview which is me um so I'm giving her a big shout out in degree in child life Administration and family professional collaboration from Towson University to become a certified Child Life specialist Adina volunteered at Mount Washington Pediatric Hospital and Johns Hopkins Children's Hospital following the completion of her master's degree she went on to complete three child life practicums at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore University of Maryland in Baltimore and Children's National Medical Center in Washington DC she completed her child life internship at Cohen's Children's Medical Center in New Hyde Park New York in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and the emergency department following her internship department following her internship she returned to Baltimore to work at Children's National Medical Center in DC where she provided Child Life Services for children receiving surgery most recently Adina provided Child Life Services in the outpatient pediatric Hematology Oncology Clinic at Sinai Hospital Adina is passionate about providing psychosocial services to Pediatric patients and their families and improving the health care experience welcome Medina thank you so much for joining me tonight I'm so excited to be here I am too and everybody should know

  3. 8:40process look for my child and even just hearing that like especially say surgery it's overwhelming
  4. 12:49specialists in private practice um in the community setting so I think that's a huge step
  5. 16:55you know what helps you best in a situation where you're having to do something difficult
  6. 21:01of whatever you're bringing into the room so if you're calm and relaxed and talking them
  7. 25:06this is a big piece in in my previous role I worked in an outpatient pediatric
  8. 29:16important job is to keep your arms still or whatever it is that they need to
  9. 33:19crying they're upset they did the hard thing do they go back to playing do they
  10. 37:24um so that was you know a nice Child Life Resource that was available for them
