I am standing now in the lobby of jts the Jewish Theological Seminary right outside of their world famous Jewish Library the largest Jewish library in the Western Hemisphere rivaled only by the National Library in Israel and I am standing now next to Sharon Mintz the curator of Jewish art Jewish art for the library I am so excited to show you the incredible treasures inside come on in our series show and tale will take you inside some of the great libraries both public and private to explore books and treasures from Jewish history this is the gorgeous lobby of the jts library and tell us Sharon what are we looking at this is gorgeous thank you very much we are looking at the new exhibition space in the library of the Jewish Theological Seminary whose new building was just opened in the last year but actually the history of the jts library goes back quite a bit further the library itself was founded with the beginning in the foundation and the establishment of the Jewish Theological Seminary in 1886. the library grew and flourished and bought collections on black throughout the first part of the 20th century it didn't just buy two or three hagadot it bought two thousand it didn't just buy one or two incurables it would buy 10 or 20 at a time whole collections came here primarily from European collectors and thereby were saved From
