[Music] hello and welcome to the 1840 podcast where each month we explore different topics balancing modern sensibilities with traditional sensitivities to give you new approaches to timeless jewish ideas i'm your host david bashevkin and this month we're actually reflecting on 1840 itself this podcast is part of a larger exploration of those big juicy jewish birthday party i was sitting next to benji and benji is a very close friend of mine one of my really extraordinarily bright gifted he's in a group a very exclusive group he's the one person who i share my wordle and quartal score with every single day thought i stopped playing absolutely not i just uh didn't buy into the hype i didn't really share much on social media but every day we share our scores together and i remember i was sitting next to the bench and we were talking about this project and i was telling him about 1840 and i remember he looked at me and he said i don't think you're like host material you're more of the guest on a podcast like you're more of the person who's like reacting and responding you're not really the host and aside from being absolutely crushed and already dealing with anxiety about this project and saying oh now we're for sure gonna fail it always stuck with me and you know there are different aspects of yourself some that come out when you are the host and guiding conversations and discussions and there are some that come
