good evening everybody welcome to the Hamad lecture Thursday night tonight's lecture is a lecture on how to understand Chuba we want to thank to our anytime for its wonderful work and for taping tonight's lecture and allowing it to be spread throughout the world that good huh okay so let's take a look I want to do with you tonight does anybody have a sheet I have more than same I have give a lot more sheets over here if I only get one please pass them down that way yeah translation in front of us is that this is this is a piece of Tanakh explain what is this put these back there okay so what I have what you have in front of you is a translation of the story of Jonah book of Job we're gonna read it at the minute time and Yom Kippur right in the afternoon and Yom Kippur this is the whole story it's four paragraphs four chapters it's very short and it's gonna deal now with a story of one of the prophets named Jonah who lived during the time of the first temple it's going back about two thousand seven hundred years ago and as I mentioned we had many prophets in Jewish history over a million the prophets that are recorded in what we call Tanaka the turret and the VM the prophets and the writings many of these prophets had to do with specific things neither try to encourage us to repent or they're talking about destruction of the temple but we had many other prophets but the ones recorded specifically are the prophets that try to encourage the Jewish people to do chuhwa to repent now this prophet was a prophet named Jonah and you probably familiar with the story a little bit how Jonah we're gonna read it was
