good evening so we are picking up in chapter five of mcgill s esther and i just wanted to recap a little bit what brought us here and also get a sense of the timeline a little bit so last week we had a bit of the more depressing chapter things are going sour things were going bad hamon is in his rise to power he is on a mission to annihilate the jewish a mission to annihilate the jewish people he gets permission from the king and uh the jewish people are thrown into mourning and prayer and mordechai sends esther on a mission that she's going to have to go at risk of her own life into achashvirus's throne room in order to beseech the king for mercy but just to get a sense of the overall timeline because then we're going to zero in on the the the narrow more narrow timeline so the the narrow more narrow timeline so the the the feast that the megillah begins with happens in the third year of achashverse's reign so in the third year vashti meets her end and it's some time after that that a search for a new queen is made and let's say a year or two because it's going to be a year where esther is sort of being prepped with in the king's palace to go before with in the king's palace to go before the king and we know from the explicit verse like it's in the seventh year of the king's reign that esther becomes queen so so it's the third year of the king's reign that vashti is deposed in the seventh year four years later about is when esther becomes queen and what year is it that haman begins his plan so that's also explicit in a verse that it was in the 12th year of the
