all right happy hanukkah everyone or as they say in yiddish which means happy hanukkah or some people say which means it should be a light enlightened hanukkah which i don't really know what they mean by that exactly but it sounds nice so hopefully everyone's lights lights will burn on hanukkah okay so what we're gonna do tonight is talk about some of the basic ideas of hanukkah and ask some pretty important questions about them and hopefully come away with some not so basic ideas some a deeper look a new perspective on some of some ideas about about chanukah so there's two main stories to hanukkah and i put them on the source sheet the first appears in al-hanisim al-anisim is a prayer that we insert into our prayers on hanukkah we also insert into benching into beer cat tama zone the grace after meals and it basically tells over an important part of the story of hanukkah so we can just read that and just to get to you know in advance what i'm going to do is we're going to ask a bunch of questions at the beginning of the class and then build up some ideas which and then we'll be able to answer all the questions so we're going to ask questions without really answering them and then answer them eventually so let's just
