good evening welcome back so this is number class number four of what happened at sinai so last week we had i guess what i would call a very rational type of class a rational approach to um prove or you know show give strong evidence for the veracity of the events and signing of our tradition of what occurred to our ancestors occurred to our ancestors um this week is going to be a very different style class we're instead of the rational we're going to be dealing more with the mystical um and that's really the beauty of torah and torah study is there's there's something in it for everyone wherever you know people have different interests and uh and find meaning in different different types of different areas of torah study and uh and some people like to and uh and some people like to touch a little bit here a little bit there you know touch everything so so we're going to be going with the um with the the mystical approach of what happened at what happened at sinai tonight now that you may be familiar there's a somewhat famous teaching of our sages of in the midrash in the talmud that before god offered the torah to the jewish people he first offered it to the other nations he first offered it to the other nations of the world and the way the midrash presents it will bring it up on the slides is as follows the midriff says excuse me there we go it says i'm seeing a number of places there's just one source when the lord appeared to give the torah to torah to israel it is not to israel alone that he appeared but to all the nations first he went to the children of asav
