I'm going to give you a couple of answers to this. Firstly, we have to dispel the notion that Yakov did not trust his son Yoseseph. Of course, he trusted his son Yseph. He trusted him implicitly. But the Shiva, the promise was not because he didn't trust his son Ysef. It was because he didn't trust Pharaoh.
