okay welcome to our new series so as many of you know my name is rabbi hilal shaps i work for the gregor washington community colo and i run a program called links and this uh this wednesday night rotating series is part of our links programming um and uh we uh with purim not too far off now about eight weeks away so it's time to start learning about purim it's time to start learning about purim and learning about the magilla of course one of the central perhaps the most central mitzvah commandment of purim is to read the megillah we read it the evening of purim we read it in the day time men and women are obligated to hear the megillah and um and it's one of the you know the highlight of purim tells the story for which we which we celebrate purim now the talmud actually brings a dispute dispute as to how much of the megillah we actually have to read so there's various opinions presented but one of them is you gotta read the whole megillah as they say right you gotta read the whole thing and the timeline actually comes out that that is the that is how we rule now he's codified and that's what we do we read the entire magilla now there's a comment that always um challenged me or was always i was always fascinated by was always i was always fascinated by of the villenegon or bell yahoo of vilna and others make similar comments but he makes it on this point where he writes that that the the reason why there is a mitzvah to read the whole thing is because every single part of the megillah is essential is important for the actual miracle of purim his language is that every verse tells the the tells of the miracle
