Good afternoon and we are living with light the why behind the what and uh today I want to discuss the upcoming fast day of Assara Betavves the 10th of Tavves which is coming up on Tuesday and um I think it's one of those fasts that we don't know so much about and uh hopefully by the end of today's class will know at least a little bit more about it. So, more about it. So, so what do we know about the 10th of Tes? So, let's begin with a verse in the book of Zakaria. And uh Zakaria is a prophet who lived after the destruction of the first temple, beginning of the second temple. And um and he has the following word from Hashem. The word of Hashem came to me saying this is the first source in the source. this is the first source in the source. So says Hashem, the Lord of hosts, the fast, the fourth fast, the fifth fast on the seventh fast. 10th fast. They'll be uh they'll become days of of joy. They'll become days of joy with the rebuilding of the second temple. So then the fasts that were enacted over the destruction of the first temple will be destruction of the first temple will be turned into days of joy. That's the verse in Zahar. And the question is what are these fasts that are referred to in the verse? What is the fourth fast? What is the fifth fast? What is the seventh fast? And what is the 10th fast? So this is the subject of a dispute in the Garra between Rabi Shim and Rabi Akiva. Really they'd only dispute one of those which is what we're talking about today.
