okay so welcome back after a couple weeks off our pesach vacation passover break and now we're back at it what happened at sinai we're moving we're up to uh i guess this is the fifth commandment that we're learning which means we did one we did six we did two and we did seven and now we're up to three the way that we go across like three the way that we go across like that so we're up to commandment number three which is the commandment which we're about to learn about so i'll bring up the um i'm gonna share my screen i'll bring up the slides and we'll go from there okay this is number 13. all right so number three is an interesting one to be found in the ten commandments number three is you shall not take the name of the lord your god lord your god in vain for the lord will not hold him guiltless or blameless really in hebrew the word is lo he won't make you queen from it for who someone who takes his name in vain so basically what we often just refer to as do not take you know do not take the the name of god in vain as we'll see it's basically you know the the more exact understanding of it the more exact understanding of it is specifically in in uh reference to oaths which we'll get into in a moment of vows um but it does applying other you know the the commentators the the uh the sages do apply also to just you know loosely using god's name um out of context not not necessarily in the context of a vow but we'll we'll see um that that the ideas that we'll discuss it will be understandable why that
