Imagine a young man sitting across from a young woman on a date. She's attractive, she's intelligent, she's kind. Everything looks perfect. But after the date, he says, "I don't know. Something's missing." A week later, another date. And then another date, then and another date. Nobody's good enough for him. Nobody measures up. And 10 years later, he's still searching. What happened? And the answer is found in this week's parashah, because in this week's parashah Behaalotecha, it contains one of the most shocking tragedies in the Torah. A most shocking tragedies in the Torah. A generation that saw the sea split. A generation that heard Hashem's mouth speaking. A generation that ate food from heaven, and yet they ruined their own happiness. And that's exactly what happened in this week's parashah Behaalotecha. And it's exactly what destroys relationships today. The Jewish people had everything. The clouds of glory for protection. Miracles clouds of glory for protection. Miracles everywhere. The manna, heavenly food. Hashem himself leading them. And yet they complained. And the Torah says they remembered the fish in Egypt. The fish? You got to be kidding. Egypt was slavery, beatings every day, murder, torture, babies crushed into cement. Yet suddenly Egypt looks so wonderful. What happened? Why? And Rabbi Avigdor Miller explains that human beings possess a terrible tendency. We stop appreciating
