okay last week we discussed what did it look like at sinai the awesome circumstances of the singing revelation the thunder the lightning the fire the smoke all of the excitement and we tried to get at least some sense of what all that was about each each particular effect that was going on what was the message or what was it trying to to bring out um to bring out um and all this was sort of the introduction or or accompaniment to the revelation of god speaking to the jewish people at mount sinai and what was it that god shared with us at that amazing event it was the ten commandments in one form or another and again i used the word ten commandments loosely the torah describes them as aseras the ten divarim which is really like the ten divarim which is really like statements um and if you examine them we've mentioned there's really more like 13 commandments in there but but the torah is telling us to divide it up into 10 so on some level so we'll just call it the ten commandments and god reveals that that's that is what ultimately you know is is transmitted seemingly at sinai is the ten commandments and we discuss did god speak all of them directly to did god speak all of them directly to the jewish people or perhaps only the first two but even if it was only the first two they still would have heard all ten at sangha just perhaps indirectly from god in any event that was that was what what went down at sinai is the ten commandments and that's where we're going to start discussing more in depth tonight there's a tremendous amount of of material to that could be touched on um probably you know a lifetime's worth
