This week's parashah we are reading about a command that Moshe ordered Am Israel. And he said to them at the end of the seventh year on shnat hashmitah on Hag Hasukkot all Am Israel will be gathered and you will read in front of them the Torah. And the pasuk says hakhel gather together the whole nation men women and small children. Small children the Rishonim explains they're not talking about children that they are bnei chinuch that you can teach them, they can understand something. They are talking here about infants. The pasuk used the word taf. The pasuk didn't use bneihem u'vnoteihem. He used the word taf. Taf explains the Malbim means they are talking about infants. The Gemara in Maseches Chagigah The Gemara explains this issue. And the Gemara says the following. We can understand men that are coming to learn. Women that are coming to hear. Children why they were brought? Says the Gemara, "Liten sachar le mevi'ehem." Hashem wanted to pay a reward to the parents that brought them. Ask the meforshim, if we are talking here about infants, that they still need their mother,
