The Yanuka — Rav Shlomo Yehuda

What’s said in this shiur

The opening of this shiur, in The Yanuka — Rav Shlomo Yehuda’s own words — taken from the captions, so names and Hebrew terms may be approximate.

The Gemorrah Shabbos 33b states Rav Huna said “All those who are careful with the mitzvah of lighting candles will have sons who are Talmidai Chachamim (Great Torah Scholars) What is the significance of the lighting of candles and having Talmidai Chachamim? By being careful with candle lighting you will be careful with your radiance (how you present yourself) to others which is in itself (your) light, which is the candle, and the Ohr HaGanuz (Hashem’s Concealed Light) is revealed through the light (flame) of the candle. Since you revealed your radiance (how you present yourself) to others, therefore you will merit sons that are Talmidai Chachamim. Rabbi Yitzchak son of the RAVE”D said that Eliyahu HaNavi zechor latov told him The Bracha for this Mitzvah only happens when one performs it in every detail and with preciseness in its totality This means that if one is extremely careful in creating peace and harmony with his radiance (how you present yourself) to others, which is the root of the light (flame) of a candle As the sole purpose of the light of a candle is in order to create Shalom Bais (tranquility of the home) If one is extremely careful in creating peace and harmony with his radiance (how you present yourself) to others, then he will have sons that are Talmidai Chachamim There are two aspects to the meanings of a candle On the one hand the candle brings light into the home to create Shalom Bais (tranquility of the home) And on the other hand the candle illuminates the Ohr HaGanuz within, this is the hidden secrets of a candle. The candle is divided into two parts one half illuminates here in this world and the other half illuminates in the heavens
