The opening of this shiur, in Rav Elisha Abib’s own words — taken from the captions, so names and Hebrew terms may be approximate.
Their son's situation is contradictory. Regarding the written statement, he writes that he was conducting business with a man who was investing his money. The agreement was for them to split the profits half and half, and the losses half. A split like that, half and half, losses half. A split like that, half and half, is problematic. Why is it problematic? As explained previously, if you say that Rav is responsible for half the losses, it turns out he actually borrowed half the money for the business. He borrowed half the money. So, if it's lost, he returns the other half anyway, which is considered collateral. Therefore, ultimately, he's not responsible for the loss of the second half. Now, concerning the profits, it's again half and half. profits, it's again half and half. So, on what he borrowed, he earns his profits (50%). On the collateral, he does n't receive the profits. But the question arises: why would he work on the collateral, on the 50% that doesn't belong to him? Why would he work for free if not in exchange, as a token of appreciation? With regard to his lender, it's called ribit, so it should be forbidden. And how is it possible that someone like that would come out on Rabil's sons, saying that their on Rabil's sons, saying that their father had done such a thing? So he's a great man, it's impossible that he would have taken out such a loan that would have given interest, of ribit, to someone, to the one who invested the money. It's not possible. And so we must understand it differently. It's not that the commitment here is half on the losses, half on the profits. It's different. We must understand that it's either half on the losses or half
