it's interesting that the bauhalajos godolos one of those who codified the 613 commandments does not count emunah belief in god as a commandment that doesn't mean that he is of the opinion that you don't have to believe in god but it's not a commandment it's something that precedes a it's something that precedes a commandment for a very simple reason if you already believe in god then you don't need a commandment to believe in him and if you don't believe in god there can't be a commandment from a god to believe in him it's an oxymoron how can you come to someone and say god says believe in him when i believe in him altogether so who says so unless you accept the belief in god as an axiom as an axiom there's no way that there can be a commandment a commandment assumes there's a commander you have to start with a belief in a commander and then you can have commandments there's only one problem the rambam maimonides counts belief in god as a mitzvah the question therefore is very obvious to whom is this mitzvah apply if you already believe in god you don't need a mitzvah to believe in it need a mitzvah to believe in it and if you don't believe in god there can't be a mitzvah to believe in a god you don't believe it so who is this mitzvah too i want to answer that in a few different ways and that will be the content of what we're going to discuss who does the mitzvah of belief in god apply to believers or non-believers let's start with non-believers the governos presents the following i'm
