Beginning tonight, the Jewish calendar enters its darkest period, the three weeks when we mourn the breaching of the walls of Jerusalem, the destruction of the temple. >> First of all, this period is called the Bain Hamitzarim. Between the uh uh two borders. Start with the 17th day of Tammuz, where five tragedies happened in Jewish five tragedies happened in Jewish history. Um the Luchos were broken uh by Moshe Rabbeinu on this day when he came down from Har Sinai and saw the Jewish people serving the golden calf. And uh later on the Korban Tamid was stopped. We're prevented from bringing the daily sacrifice in the temple on this day. And um uh the walls of Yerushalayim were uh the walls of Yerushalayim were breached when the uh uh siege that the Romans had made, uh they were able to get through the walls and begin their destruction of Yerushalayim and eventually the Beit Hamikdash and the Second Temple. And um in history, the Mishna says that Apostomus burnt a Sefer Torah on this day. And uh also an idol was put up in the Heichal, in the uh Beit Hamikdash. Heichal, in the uh Beit Hamikdash. And uh these three weeks culminate with Tisha B'Av where both both the Mikdash were actually destroyed and our ancestors were decreed in the desert and not to be able to enter Eretz Yisrael. That generation would have to uh die out and the city of Beitar was decimated on uh on Tisha B'Av. In any case, the I'm putting it in perspective a little bit so we can see why these days, even
