so thank you everybody for joining us um what i'd like for us to do today at least for the early portion if not we'll see how long it takes us maybe even the entire duration of today's class after we've read chapter 11 and chapter 12 of the book of el bet which talks about the ordeal between david and batsheba a troubling story to say the least when we look at david's actions and we read the the text black on white hashem did not like what david did the punishments that we read about in last in the last that we read about in last in the last class that we did in chapter 12 were heavy and we will continue to see them carry out through the rest of the book um we want to ask the question how did our rabbis analyze this story 11 and 12. because david melech is still the gold standard by which everybody is measured as we'll see in the next book the book of kings which talks about king after king after king every king will be compared to david that will be whether he's looked at as good or bad will be did he follow in the good or bad will be did he follow in the ways of his ancestor david david is the gold standard he's the benchmark by which everyone else is measured he maintains his grip on the on the kingdom it's from him that the mashiach will come so david is a larger than life figure and yet for us who have studied the stories of and now are studying the stories of david we wonder how is it that shaol made one or two mistakes in our minds not anywhere near the type of mistake that david made and the kingdom is immediately ripped from his clutches yet
