So, it's the old Soviet Union and people are scared of their own shadow. In the middle of the night there was a pounding at Mechel's door. Mechel began to shiver in fright. He turned around. He said, "They're coming for me." He said goodbye to his wife and children and slowly started making his way towards the door. And the neighbor upstairs WAS SAYING, "FIRE! FIRE! THE BUILDING'S ON FIRE!" He ran back. He told his wife, "Baruch Hashem, it's just a fire. It's just a fire. Relax. Relax." Lashon hara is a fire and it's more than that. There's a beautiful maaseh that happened in a little village in Eretz Yisrael and everyone is so happy except the gabbai because the gabbai was not notified beforehand. And the gabbai felt that infringed on his authority. He was very, very upset about this new sefer Torah. And even though the custom is with the new sefer Torah, you read the new sefer Torah for the next year, the gabbai said, "No. The old shul sefer Torah is a much nicer sefer Torah. Here in our shul." Ze kein yiveh he refused to allow them to use the new sefer Torah. Meanwhile, the family that donated the sefer Torah and the children said, "At least let's use it once." And the gabbai said, "No." He
