The way that we'll be able to use this world properly in the most advantageous and ideal ways when Messiah comes. >> Welcome back to the podcast. My name is Aaron Salko and [music] you're watching Pursue Inspire. My guest today is Rabbi Zev Leff, shlita. Rabbi Leff, welcome to the podcast. Rabbi Leff, is there something about Sukkot that connects it to Messiah or the final redemption? >> I think that Sukkot has the following message that relates also to uh to Messiah and to what the goal of the world is. On the one hand, the sukkah is supposed to remind us that this world is a temporary world. That this is not the goal. Uh the goal is olam haba and to get to olam haba, first we have to reach the pinnacle of this world is Messiah's time. And the circumstances for learning Torah and doing mitzvot will be the most ideal. So, the sukkah reminds us that this physical world is transient and not the goal. If that's the case, then why do we uh make the sukkah so beautiful? We should make the sukkah as ugly as possible so we remember that this world is not the main thing. It's only It's only a transient temporary dwelling. To answer that, I'd mention a midrash to you. The midrash in Kohelet says the following. There were once two wicked criminals, two resha'im, that were partners in crime. They robbed, they murdered, they lived a life of crime. One of them died and he went to Gehennam. And he was in Gehennam for an amount of time suffering. And one day he looks up and he sees that they're um escorting his partner's neshama into Gan Eden. So he calls over the angel who is appointed over Gehennam and he says
