Welcome to Episode 30 of the Goldenberg Destiny Project. Today we're going to speak about two kings and the contrast between them. So let's get started. When King Solomon passed away he was succeeded by his son Rehavam. Now Rehavam was not like his father. His father was a prophet, the wisest person that ever lived, the custodian of the Torah, after David it was Solomon, and Rehavam was not in that class. But he was the son of Solomon and he became king. There was, constantly, in Israel there was a tension between the other tribes and Judah. There was always a tension between the two of them. The Tribe of Judah descended from Judah, who was given kingship, he was given the duty and the privilege of being king, and the northern tribes, the main tribe in the northern tribes was Ephraim. Ephraim was descended from Joseph, and Joseph also had a promise of royalty, so the northern tribes who were descended from Joseph were not comfortable with the royal office being in Judah, in Jerusalem. Nevertheless they accepted it. But when David became king there were seven years of strife with the northern kingdom before he was able to establish his kingship over all of Israel in Jerusalem. In the beginning it was in Hebron, and in Jerusalem was one of Saul’s sons, Ish-Boshess, and the northern tribes supported him against Judah, but after seven years of strife, all of Israel accepted David that he was the king. But there was always this underlying tension between the south and the north, the south being Judah and Benjamin, who was in the same area, and also must be other affinities, and the northern tribes who are more numerous than the southern tribes. When it came time for Rehavam to be king, so they insisted that the coronation take place in Shechem. Shechem was the principal city of Ephraim
