Last week we spoke about what is called de oraita. De oraita means from the Torah. Even though it was given orally, the the that that oral stuff is not rabbinic. The rabbis did not make up that filling is a blocks of straps. That is a very legitimate uh oral law. Uh that's a very legitimate oral law law. And that is not rabbinic. Uh like shaking an esrog, that's not Uh like shaking an esrog, that's not rabbinic. Shaking the the a citron, that is from the Torah. So, the that's the first thing that people get confused about, and we just have to make a clear line. That's not rabbinic Judaism. That is Torah Judaism that was given over orally by God to Mosha, explained over a 40-year period to the people in the desert. It ended up being written down by Rabbi Judah the Prince. Uh and it was written down almost a Uh and it was written down almost a little bit less than 1,500 years, about 1,300 years after the Torah was given, but that was never that was never uh rabbinic uh Judaism. That was always de oraita Judaism. Now, we are up to today. So, so what is rabbinic Judaism? Or even so, what power do the rabbis have? Why do they even make laws? So, on a very very simple level, on a very very simple level, you would expect we would expect any society to have a a some sort of jurisprudence, some sort of a mechanism where things can adjust and change so that society can continue to survive and thrive through uh through the millenniums, right? Through through history. So, it's not it's not surprising
