Okay friends, I'm so excited to get started with our first uh panel really a live discussion. uh for me this is the most uh central question that really occupies my thought and where I come from which is not so much the details or the predictions of where technology is going but really uh turning inwards and trying to understand what is the nature and the fabric of our own humanity and I wanted really to begin by first introducing uh two people uh I I've had introducing uh two people uh I I've had them both on 1840 and I'm very grateful that you are here today First, my friend Rabbi Steven uh Gotautleb who is a rabbi in uh Philadelphia and has written on consciousness and where consciousness studies intersect with Jewish faith. uh and he got I remember uh Philip Goff who is a a very well-known uh writer on science and consciousness uh interacted with him after really presenting I think quite marvelously the Jewish approach to consciousness and my really dear friend consciousness and my really dear friend for so many years of Rubin when I am spiraling and having an existential mystical crisis and I need somebody to voice note at 2:00 in the morning to understand the language with which I could capture my dread. Uh Ellie is the recipient of most of those which is why he looks so uh [laughter] but really to have him here uh is an incredible privilege. And I wanted to begin with an understanding of what the language the Torah uses to understand
