Welcome to episode 37 of the Goldberg Destiny Project. So, today we're going to talk about the Greeks. Who are the Greeks? First of all, the name. What is Greek? Greek. So, the Greeks didn't call themselves Hellenes cuz they believed that they were descended from some kind of an ancestor Hel- Helle, Hellen. H E L L E N. Um I don't know if he was a considered human being or a god or something, but they called themselves Hellenes. Um the Romans called them Greeks because there was one The Greeks had many many different uh tribes. There was a minor tribe that lived in Italy that was called the Graecos. So, the Romans called the Greeks the Greek the Greeks because of the Graecos, and therefore they called all the Greeks the Greeks. Uh we call them the Yavanim because they are descended from Yavan, who was the grandson of Noach and son of Yafes and the grandson of Noach and uh we actually see the uh the remnants of that name in the Greek culture itself because the um main the tribe, one of the main tribes, not sure if it was the the main tribe, was called the Ionians. So, Ion and Yavan is the same word, but the Greeks are very vowel-rich language, and they you know, so they suppressed that con- the consonant, but it's Ion. That's the Ionian Sea, Ionia, this is all Greek. So, that's who that's who they are. And they migrated from Mesopotamia, from the land where people started, and they went north, and they went through they settled on the coast of Asia Minor, which is Western Turkey, and they went to the islands, the Cyclades Islands in the Aegean Sea, which we call the Greek Islands, the very famous Greek Islands.
