We have the privilege this week of learning and reading Parshas Balak page 774 in the Artscroll Stone Chumash and we continue Sefer Bamidbar which is our trek and journey through the desert on our way to the promised land but like most adolescent experiences is filled with ups and downs. It's not linear. It's not simple. We don't get to simply leave Egypt and find ourselves in Israel the promised land but the journey towards any almost any promised land any promised land that's worth getting to is filled with ups and downs ratzo v'shov. We advance, we progress and we regress and it's all about overcoming. We'll see an insight soon. It's all about persevering and overcoming and enduring and not letting the down spiral down but learning to be able to bounce and to be able to go even higher than we were. Vayedaber Hashem el Moshe lemor we begin page 774. Hashem spoke to Moshe saying "Daber el Aharon v'emarta elav speak to Aharon and tell him b'haalotcha et hanerot el mul p'nei hamenorah ya'iru shivat hanerot." Speak to Aharon and tell him when you light the menorah toward the face of the menorah the seven lamps cast light. The branches there were seven branches in this candelabra. What did the menorah look like? Rambam holds that they were straight, others suggest that they were curved. You'll see depictions of the menorah differently.
