our series show and tale will take you inside some of the great libraries both public and private to explore books and treasures from jewish history so we're looking now at uh our ba'atu rim so yaakov banashar's code of jewish law printed in berlin in 1702 this happened to be owned by one yaakov emdin yeah for jacob emdin he used this book as i like to say practically to death you can see as he was studying it he marked off what he was up to including in the commentary and his annotations are just throughout all the pages we have um it's not in great shape because of just how well this he used this he's the one who who beat this up he he is clearly the one who beat this up these annotations are all in his handwriting um and he studied it extensively and you got this again so this came as part of that collection that original collection wow yeah the collection had been that was sold in two parts so the three men's libraries were sold first in the early 1860s and then this was actually the second half of that sale so the first part of the sale went to the first part of the collection went to the british library where it is today so they also have material from these three libraries um including the golden haggadah some amazing manuscripts that ended up there
