Who was the Rambam?
This series is not a person named "Seforim of the Rambam" but a study of the seforim — the books — of the Rambam himself. Rabbi Moshe ben Maimon (1138–1204), known by the acronym Rambam and in the wider world as Maimonides, was one of the towering figures of Jewish history: a master of halacha, a philosopher, and a practicing physician.
Born in Cordoba in Spain, he spent much of his life in Fustat, near Cairo in Egypt, where he served as a physician while producing works that reshaped Jewish thought and law. His stature is captured in the famous phrase, "From Moshe to Moshe, there arose none like Moshe."
The Mishneh Torah
The centerpiece of the Rambam's halachic legacy is the Mishneh Torah, his monumental fourteen-book code of Jewish law. It was the first work to organize the entirety of halacha — including laws with no practical application in his day — into a single, systematic structure written in clear, elegant Hebrew.
