What’s said in this shiur
The opening of this shiur, in Rabbi Daniel Glatstein’s own words— taken from the captions, so names and Hebrew terms may be approximate.
I'm going to have Shabbos and welcome everyone. We have an amazing program today. We have a bunch of Shura and we're going to begin with Smukhim. Miyad. The explanation for the juxtaposition of the parshas connecting parshas Naso to the end of parshas Bamidbar. Now, in a way the juxtaposition is obvious. Actually, it's so obvious that the Baal HaTurim who normally explains the juxtaposition does not do so this week. And the reason I think he doesn't do so is because it's it's as obvious as it gets. Why? [clears throat] The parsha begins Naso esh Rosh Bnei Gershon gam hem. And this is a continuation of the counting of the Bnei Kehas at the end of Bamidbar. Like Rashi says, gam hem k'mo she' atzvi'cha al Bnei Kehas. Like I commanded you regarding Kehas. L'ros kama yesh hegi'u l'avoda. To see how many members came to avoda. So so too should you count the Bnei Gershon. In fact, I believe that Sforno says the same thing. The Sforno says Naso esh Rosh Bnei Gershon gam hem l'Beis Avosam. Above in Bamidbar it said Rosh Naso esh Rosh Bnei Kehas. And really Gershon was the Bechor. And really Gershon should have been counted first. And it first counted Kehas. So therefore it says don't forget about Gershon. Naso esh Rosh Bnei Gershon gam hem. Like it says by Kehas Naso. By Gershon it also says Naso. Since he's the Bechor, it should say like it says by Kehas. That's why it It say Naso by Merari. It says Nossai by Kehas. It says Nossai by Gershon.
