What’s said in this shiur
The opening of this shiur, in Rabbi Daniel Glatstein’s own words— taken from the captions, so names and Hebrew terms may be approximate.
I'm back. Okay. Parshas Bechukosai three amazing ideas on Parshas Bechukosai from the sefer Pnei Kedem. Number one, Rebbe Yisrael Yaakov Emden Eibeschütz, "Va'achaltem lechem l'sova, vishavtem lavetach ba'artzechem." You will eat your bread in satiety. You will dwell securely in your land. Now, the Gemara says in Gittin daf ayin that if there's a concern that you might come to anger, you need to leave 1/3 of the tank empty. You should eat a third of your fill, drink a third of your fill, and a third leave empty. Says Rashi, cuz if your stomach is full and you get angry, the stomach could crack. Maybe in modern terminology, that means you could get an ulcer, you know, if you eat too much and drink too much and get angry, you could get an ulcer. However, says Rebbe Yisrael Yaakov Emden Eibeschütz, the Gemara in the Talmud says chof beis on daf chof beis, "Venasanu Hashem lachem chalev ragaz b'Bavel." B'Bavel. But in Eretz Yisrael, there's a protection from anger. The ragaz the roigez is in Bavel. Therefore, in Eretz Yisrael, "Va'achaltem lechem l'sova." Why? Because "Vishavtem lavetach ba'artzechem." You'll dwell in Eretz Yisrael, and this will allow you to eat till your complete fill. Your complete fill. This comes from Hagaon Rebbe Yeshaya
