What’s said in this shiur

The opening of this shiur, in Rabbi Daniel Glatstein’s own words— taken from the captions, so names and Hebrew terms may be approximate.

[music] >> We conclude Kiness in Kinnam Mehe. We say, [music] "Wail Zion and her cities like a woman in the pains of her birth." Why do we compare the tears that we should have for Zion, for Yerushalayim, [music] to the tears of a woman in labor? What's the comparison? [music] The Rama in his Safer Torah brings an epic encounter between [music] the Navi Yirmiyahu and the philosopher Apollaton, Plato. [music] When Nevuchadnetzar destroyed the first Beit Hamikdash, the Greek philosopher Plato found [music] Yirmiyahu Hanavi. What an encounter of between Yirmiyahu and this philosopher. >> [music] >> He encounters Yirmiyahu weeping on Har Habayit. And Plato turns to Yirmiyahu. He says, "You're an adult. You're a sophisticated [music] sage. Why are you crying over a mere building of stone and wood? Furthermore, why are you crying over the past? Why are you crying over spilled milk?" And Yirmiyahu Hanavi says to Plato, "You're an intelligent, wise, sagacious [music] person. You probably have many very difficult and profound philosophical [music] questions. Would you mind sharing them with me? Or even one with me?" And Plato tells Yirmiyahu [music] his most difficult and challenging questions. And one after another, Yirmiyahu answers them, almost dismissing how it was ever a question in the first [music] place. Yirmiyahu said, "Do you know where I got the wisdom to answer all of your questions from? >> [music] >> From this building of stone and wood. All of my wisdom emanates from [music] this temple. That's why I'm crying. But regarding the second point, of what benefit is it to cry over the past? It's crying over spilled milk.
