What’s said in this shiur
The opening of this shiur, in Rabbi Daniel Glatstein’s own words— taken from the captions, so names and Hebrew terms may be approximate.
And here we go. Parshas Behar. >> [clears throat] >> Now, at the end of Emor it says the Bene Yisrael did like Hashem commanded Moshe. What is that referring to? That's referring to there was a guy who cursed Hashem. And they stoned him to death. The Bene Yisrael did what Hashem commanded Moshe. Behar begins and the Almighty spoke to Moshe on Mount Sinai. What exactly is a Smichas? So, perhaps the Siyum of the show we can explain as follows. The guy who cursed Hashem, if you remember, they locked him up. Why they locked him up? Rashi says they actually didn't know what to do with him. They didn't know if he was Chayev Misa or not. So, I had the following question today. I can't believe I never thought of this question. Right? Do you remember that? Rashi says that on Sinai it doesn't seem like Hashem told Moshe Rabbeinu what the Halacha would be if someone cursed Hashem. Doesn't say anywhere. It says don't take God's name in vain, but it doesn't say what the repercussions are of if someone curses Hashem. So, they literally didn't know what to do with the guy. So, they locked him up and they were awaiting a memo from heaven. So, my question is, so how did they ultimately stone him? If they didn't know what to do with him, that means they never warned him. And if they never warned him, how could they ultimately kill him? We know you don't punish anybody in in the in the courts down here in this world unless they're warned.
