Okay, friends. Let's discuss the juxtaposition of Parshas Behar and Parshas Bechukosai. Of course, Parshas Bechukosai begins in Bechukosai telechu. VS Mitzvosai tishmoru va'asisem oisam. Let us go to the Mar'eh Makomois. Do you see them? Bechukosai. Interestingly, interestingly, the end of Behar it says es Shabbosai tishmoru. And then it says in Bechukosai telechu, Rashi famously says she'tiyu ameilim ba'Torah, that you should engage in strenuous Torah study. This, I believe, is a remez to what Chazal teach, lo nisnu Shabbosois l'Yisrael ela la'asok ba'Torah, that Shabbos was given to the Jewish people to engage in Torah study. The juxtaposition of Shabbos to in Bechukosai telechu indicates that Shabbos was given to the Jewish people >> [cough] >> to engage in Torah. Reb Yaakov Kamenetsky has a stupendous >> [snorts] >> explanation of the juxtaposition of the parshios. He says as follows, the Parshas Bechukosai begins in Bechukosai telechu, which Rashi says means, if you engage in strenuous Torah study, life will be good, I'll bless you, I'll give you health, I'll give you livelihood. However, if you don't listen to me, which Rashi interprets, if you don't if you're not ameil ba'Torah, if you don't engage in toiling in Torah, in working in Torah, then you incur the penalties of the tochacha. So, as Reb Yaakov Kamenetsky it says later on on the pasuk "Oz teretz ha'aretz shabbos se'arah." That it through the tochacha the land will be appeased for failure to observe shmita. As Reb Yaakov Kamenetsky, shmita? Shmita man docha shmei? Who said anything about shmita? Why would shmita be mentioned here? Failure to observe shmita has nothing to do with the tochacha. It says the reason for the tochacha is not engaging in
