This week's Torah, called by the grace of God, Shabbat, is Torah Tazria Metzora, a connected torah that deals with the impurity of leprosy. As everyone knows, leprosy comes in three foci. In the three foci called body, garment, and house, these are the three foci where leprosy is received. Although the order written in the Torah is first leprosy of the body, then leprosy of the garment, and then leprosy of the house, this is not the order of receiving leprosy. The Holy Sages say, "The Holy One, blessed be He, does not harm souls first. First, he harms a person's property. What is a person's property? He harms his house, then his clothing, and only then his body." The holy sages, Rashi, bring the words, "The One who is holy sages, Rashi, bring the words, "The One who is merciful does not harm souls first. So since he does not harm souls first, therefore he harms his property first. So why is it written in the Torah first that the body appears, and only then does the property appear?" Rashi says, so do the Sages say, and the Torah is offered.
