joining me uh thanks for having me now appreciate it so let's start off tell the listeners a little bit about yourself and your background so how much do you want to know about my background myself I'm an academic so I'm supposed to be purely objective and untainted by any bias um but if you want me to be honest I um come to this uh having grown up very assimilated reform in the suburbs of Washington DC with no uh suburbs of Washington DC with no uh strong inspirational figures who would um who would cause me to take Jewish studies so seriously and Judaism and Yiddish kite so seriously but halfway through college I um spent a my junior year in Israel and I wound up gradually in uh pretty uh from Yeshiva or and then I kind of worked my way back into modern Orthodoxy and then you know academic Jewish studies and that's really where my Center is now is is on really where my Center is now is is on that cusp of kind of the secular and and religious world and that's why these kinds of topics are so fascinating to me yeah that's I was going to ask you I mean even before we get into specifically the taverns and the liquor and all that kind of thing I mean you're interest I I I believe you're interested in Inus and in Poland in general and yish I mean how why is that how did you get into that specific field of Jewish history and Jewish studies well I think there's a feeling of authenticity about it and again as academics were trained not to believe
