So, what is the commandment we have in our days, first of all, regarding the blotting out of Amalek? And why did the Holy One, blessed be He, issue such a decree against him: "The Lord is at war with Amalek from generation to generation"? According to Mitzvah 603, the Chinuch, the Sefer HaChinuch, writes that we were commanded to remember what Amalek did to Israel, as Israel was the one who started...... provoking them upon their departure from Egypt, before the other nations dared to lay a hand on them. When we left Egypt, the Holy One, blessed be He , brought us out with such great wonders; the nations heard, a trembling seized the inhabitants of Philistia. The chieftains of Edom were dismayed, the mighty men of Moab were seized with trembling, all the inhabitants of Canaan melted away, terror fell upon them. May it happen in our days too, with God's help. What then? That fool, Amalek, arrived. He sees a boiling bathtub; what does he do? He jumps in.
