The secret of David and Shaul… As you know, King Shaul's story is very painful. The first king of the Jewish People passed away in immense pain, after he gave so profusely to the Jewish Nation. And ultimately, it was an Amalekite, or more correctly an Amalekite convert [who claimed to have murdered Shaul], and therefore King David killed him, and said to him, 'you are bound to die, for you stretched forth your hand to destroy Hash-m's anointed.' Each time I read this, it's so incredibly painful. Tears come to my eyes at the thought of how they took him, and then the people of Yavesh-Gilad came and demounted him. He was beheaded, and they impaled his body alone, at the end of Shmuel I.
