What’s said in this shiur
The opening of this shiur, in Rabbi Dovid Kaplan’s own words — taken from the captions, so names and Hebrew terms may be approximate.
Um, starting parts of them all. So, this is the parsha that deals with the laws primarily uh the parsha that most deals with the laws of the Kohanim. Now, anybody here a Kohen? Huh? Besides me? Huh. Lonely at the top. I told you. Okay. So, it says like this, "Vayomer Hashem So, it says like this, "Vayomer Hashem el Moshe, Emor el HaKohanim benei Aharon." Say to the Kohanim, the sons of Aaron, "Ve'amarta aleihem." And you shall say to them, "Le'nefesh lo yitama be'amav." He must not come into contact with impurity. So, the first question that you must ask over here is why the double terminology. Emor, page 672. 672. Emor el benei el HaKohanim, say to the Kohanim, "Benei Aharon, ve'amarta aleihem." Say "Benei Aharon, ve'amarta aleihem." Say to them, and you shall say to them. So, why the double terminology? So, Rashi, the very first Rashi, says, "Emor el HaKohanim, very first Rashi, Emor, ve'amarta." Double terminology. Le'hazhir gedolim al haketanim. It means to warn the adult Kohanim that they have to supervise the minor Kohanim. When it comes to the laws of impurity that a Kohen is not allowed to come into contact with a dead body, contact with a dead body, which doesn't necessarily mean physical contact. It could be being under the same roof as a dead body or within four amos of a dead body. So, here the Torah says that you have to warn the adult Kohanim have to make sure to supervise the minor Kohanim that they should not come into contact with a with a with with a dead body. Why here? It doesn't say that by non-kosher food. It doesn't say say have the adults warn the children that they shouldn't eat non-kosher food. Doesn't say that when it comes to shatnez, warn the adults not
