We said that the first two sentences in the full paragraph contradict one another. We were slaves to Pharaoh and Egypt and the shem of God took us out from there with a mighty hand and arm. That's one sentence. Had not the holy one blessed be taken our fathers out from Egypt and we our children's children would have remained enslaved to Pharaoh and Egypt. So we said who was enslaved in Egypt? Who was it? Was it we or wasn't we? What's the answer that we gave? The first we the we in the first sentence refers to nation. The nation the nation was not we individuals each one of us but the nation was our ancestors. Second sentence says our fathers were there. Of course we as individuals were not. I think that's a perfectly acceptable explanation of the two sentences on this page. However, if you'll just take a brief look at page 45, it says there bottom of the page, in every generation, it is one's duty to regard himself as though he personally had gone out from Egypt. as is written, you shall tell your son in that day is because of this that Hashem did for me when I went out of Egypt. And if that isn't clear enough, if you want to wiggle out of it by creative interpretation, watch the next words. It is not only our fathers whom the holy one redeemed from slavery, we too were redeemed with them. I don't think you can wiggle with that. that
